HARTS, W.Va. — Pearl Johnson, 72, of Harts, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, October 6, 2012, at her residence.
Born October 22, 1939, in Harts, she was a daughter of the late Melvin and Vira Farley. Also preceding her in death was her husband, Ray Johnson; one son, Clayton Johnson; two brothers, Howard Adkins and Johnny Farley; three sisters, Lucille Mullins, Verdie “Toot” Maynard and Rachel Farley, and her father and mother-in-law, Jimmy and Audrey Johnson.
Pearl was a member of the Hoover Church of Jesus Christ for 25 years, a faithful attendant of the Greenshoal Freewill Baptist and a singer with the New Highway Singers and The Joyful Five. Pearl was always ready to help out in any way with a church function, whether it be a hot dog sale, dinner, helping with the sick or whatever it may have been.
Those left to cherish her memory include one daughter, Misty (Roger) Sturgill of Harts; one step-daughter, Patty Ann Ikler of Charleston; four sons, Don (Beth) Johnson, Denny Johnson, Mike Johnson, and Jeff Johnson, all of Harts; one sister, Lessie Jane (Rev. Jimmy) Carter of Chapmanville, who were like her children; three brothers, Willie (LaVinia) Farley of Whitesburg, Ky., Doug Farley of East Lynn and Melvin Farley Jr. of Ranger; one daughter-in-law, Debra Johnson of Leet; 14 grandchildren, Eli Sturgill (his “Ta Bush”), Lisa Johnson, Jessica (Kenny) Browning, Hillary Freeman, Donald Ray Johnson II, Dustin, Brandon, and Nathan Johnson, Cody, Randel and Jacob Johnson, Kimberly (James) Bostic, Chad (Stephanie) Carter, and Craig (Rachel) Headley; seven step-grandchildren, David and Mark (Angie) Farmer, Eric, Karen and Sarah Farmer, Lisa and Steven Midkiff; 10 great-grandchildren, Kelsey and Braxton Browning, Brooklynn and Devin Freeman, Ashley and Christian Johnson, Jody Ann and Cody Paul Farley II, Tyler Carter and Will Headley; six step-great grandchildren, Corbin, Isiah and Chelsey Farmer, Levi Midkiff and Sydney and Steven Steele, and her special friends, Leah Jones, Rev. Arbie and Marg Adkins and Lucian and Sally Maynard.
Services will be held at noon Wednesday, October 10, at the Greenshoal Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Jimmy Carter and Rev. Arbie Adkins officiating. Burial will follow at the Lucas Cemetery at Harts.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Don, Denny, Jeff and Mike Johnson, Chad Carter and Roger Sturgill.
Honorary pallbearers will be Willie, Doug, Melvin Jr. and David Farley.
Freeman Funeral Home of Chapmanville is in charge of arrangements.
