It was a good week last week for the Beth Haven Christian girls’ volleyball team which won the WVCEA Division A state championship at Appalachian Bible College in Beckley.
Beth Haven went into the tournament seeded sixth in the state in the Christian Athletic Association but advanced with wins over No. 3 Emmanuel Christian School in the quarterfinals and No. 2 seed Mercer Christian in the semifinals last Friday.
The Hornets toppled Mercer in five sets.
Then last Saturday, Beth Haven scored an upset five-set victory over No. 1 seed Victory Baptist Academy in the state championship match.
The Hornets were led by Most Valuable player Megan Topping.
Freshman Hannah Browning and junior Presley Holbrook were named to the all-tournament team.
The Beth Haven Christian middle school team also played very well in the state tournament.
The Hornets lost to Elk Valley Christian School last Friday, but bounced back to defeat Emmanual Christian last Saturday to take third place in the WVCEA Middle School Tournament.
The Hornets were led by all-tournament selections Megan Hager and Ashleigh Lowe.
Beth Haven head coach Regina Vance said the season ended well for both of the squads.
“The girls had a rocky start to their season but it ended great,” Vance said.
Vance was assisted by Katie Maynard.
