LOGAN, W.Va. — Robert L. Mendel Jr., 57, of Logan, passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2012, at the Cancer Treatment Centre of America in Philadelphia, Pa. He was the son of Naomi Walls Mendel Derringer of Harrodsburg, Ky., and the late Robert Lee Mendel.
Also preceding him in death was one daughter, Shawna Lea Mendel.
Robert was a member of the West Logan Church of God, Logan County Club and Logan Moose Lodge. He worked for the Pepsi Cola Company where he taught safety classes and was coordinator for route drivers, pick-up and deliveries, warehouse manager and route manager. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, hunting, snow skiing, water skiing, boating and swimming.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 40 years, Brenda Blankenship Mendel; one daughter, Malia Mendel of Logan; three sisters, Debbie (Hugh) Samuels of Roanoke, Va., Tammy (Joe) Thomas of Teays Valley and Sandy (Rick) Clay of Logan; one brother, Michael Todd (Christine Andrews) Mendel of South Charleston; his stepfather, Richard Derringer of Harrodsburg, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, at the West Logan Church of God with the Rev. Scotty Dingess officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Pallbearers include Todd Mendel, Rick Clay, Joe Thomas, Hugh Samuels, Brent Bartram and Victtiro Distfano.
Honorary pallbearers include John Bartram and Bobby Browning.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Monday at the church.
