LOGAN – Arrest warrants are being issued to many of Logan and the surrounding area’s most notorious citizens, but with a little help from their co-workers, they may be able to ‘beat the rap.’ As part of the annual fundraising to benefit the Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA), the Logan Holiday Inn Express will host a Lock Up on Dec. 5, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Fundraising Coordinator Sara Jones says local business leaders will be picked up and taken to the jail site at the Holiday Inn Express.
“The jailbirds will then call everyone in their contacts to try and raise money for their bail,” said Jones, “There is usually one out of every group who calls their mother and tells her they are in jail, embellishing the story to be convincing. It is a fun event for everyone and benefits a great cause.”
According to Jones, all the money raised at the Logan event will stay in the Logan area to support children and adults with neuromuscular disease. There are five or six Lock Ups held in West Virginia, raising $20-$40 thousand at each location. This area is smaller and the goal is to raise at least $15 thousand.
The Lock Up events are part of MDA’s year-long fundraising campaign and are showcased on the annual MDA Show of Strength airing on Sept. 1, 2013, by WSAZ. The MDA is asking for volunteers to participate and support this fun and worthy cause.
