Maryetta UB honors veterans

VERDUNVILLE — The Maryetta United Baptist Church held a veteran’s program Sunday, November 11, 2012, in honor of all veterans past and present. The event was sponsored by the Men’s Fellowship of the church.

Melvin Meade offered the opening prayer. Events included the playing of “Reveille”, “The Battle Hymn of the Republic”, “God Bless America” and “Taps”. The history of Veterans Day and the reading of the Presidential Proclamation establishing Veterans Day for 2012 were read by John A. Evans. Dixie Long led the children and the congregation in the pledge to the American flag, Christian flag, and the Bible. Videos shown were “Keepers of the Peace” and “Freedom Is Not Free”.

There was a recognition ceremony for those veterans in attendance: Curtis Evans Jr., Cass Trent, Gerald Kincaid, Tennis Baisden and Garry Doss; each was presented a lapel pin and patriotic CD.

The “Reading Of Number Of War Dead” was read by Jack Baisden Sr.

Pastor Lonnie Gore offered closing remarks and a prayer.
