CROOKED CREEK — The Gleaners Class of the Crooked Creek Church of Christ held a Valentine themed meeting in the fellowship hall of the church February 12, 2013. Hostesses for the meeting were Opal Bell and Karen Dingess, with special help given by Nikki Miller and Ethel Perry.
President Brenda Adams conducted the meeting. The minutes from the January meeting was read by Karen Dingess. Peggy Farmer made the motion that the minutes were correct as read and Donna Miller seconded the motion. Shirley Ruggles, treasurer, gave the financial report and an offering was taken up.
Opal Bell led the ladies in a circle prayer for several pressing needs of the church family. Dingess played a “candy bar” game with the ladies and had devotion about “Resolving To Be A Better Christian in 2013.”
Dingess noted that most people make New Year’s resolutions like lose weight, get more exercise, break bad habits and get out of debt and they break these within the first couple weeks of the year. A resolution usually means that we want to resolve to improve or better ourselves and that’s always good, especially in the spiritual areas of our lives. Bettering ourselves as Christians involves bettering our relationship with God. We have to draw closer to Him before we can improve our Christian lives.
She told members there are a few steps they can take to keep on the right road with God through the year: First they need to reaffirm their relationship with God; second, they need to reflect on the past year and ask God to show them areas of sin and weakness that might have hindered their spiritual growth; then they need to repent of their sins and ask God to refresh them and give them a new vision for the year ahead. They then can renew their commitment to His vision and purpose for their life. Then they need to resolve to be faithful to God’s purpose in their life and to glorify Him in the areas He has revealed to them as they have prayed to Him.
The ladies were given a notebook to record prayer requests in and then to record how God answers those prayers. The ladies are to reflect on this through the year and reflect on God’s grace and mercy. It is through these reflections they will be able to grow in their Christian walk.
Other business included: adjustments to the schedule of hostesses for class meeting. Evelyn Adams made the motion to adjourn the meeting and Bell seconded.
All ladies attending received a heart shaped box of candy, a pencil and notebook. Door prizes were won by Rosemary Adams, Shirley Ruggles, Donna Miller and Sharon Lowe.
The March meeting will be held at Giovanni’s.
