NEW BERN, N.C. — Dollie Varden Blevins Jarrell was born February 18, 1926, in Pine Creek, a daughter of the late Franklin “Mac” and Rhoda Blevins. She departed this life February 26, 2013, in New Bern.
Dollie was raised in Pine Creek and married John Dixon Jarrell in 1947. After their marriage, John went on active duty with the U.S. Army, and they moved throughout the United States and Germany, building a family with six children born between 1950 and 1966. After John’s death in 1975, Dollie settled in Lake Charles, La., where she worked for more than 20 years as a security guard at Conoco. After retiring, she lived in Cheyenne, Wyo., and Colorado Springs, Colo.; she moved to New Bern in 2012.
Also preceding her in death were her sons, John Jr. and James Phillip.
Survivors include her sister, Julia Jarrell; children, Sharon Sutton, Sandra Jarrell, Susan Whitman and Jerry Jarrell; 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and countless friends and extended family, including Pamela Jill Harrington, Grace Walker and Donna Patterson.
Dollie was loved by many and will be greatly missed.
Per her request her ashes will be scattered with her son Jamie’s in Colorado Springs.
