LAKE, W.Va. — Esther Moore Marcum, 81, of Lake, formerly of Laurel Creek, departed this life Saturday, March 9, 2013, at Logan Regional Medical Center.
Born March 27, 1931, in Laurel Creek, she was a daughter of the late Richard and Anna Sturgill Dillon. Also preceding her in death were her husbands, Vernon Moore and Sylvester Marcum; siblings: Grover, Sid, Woodrow Dillon, Sadie Workman and Martha Reames, and one son, James Moore.
Esther was a former nurse at the old Guyan Valley Hospital and Logan General Hospital. She was a member of the Mt. Hope Freewill Baptist Church.
Survivors include her daughter-in-law, Tennessee Moore May; six children, Ernest (Sue) Moore of Columbus, Ohio, Brenda (Fred) Marcum of Lake, Woodrow Moore and Sidney (Shelby) Moore, both of Dingess, Gail Moore of Lenore, and Burl (Pat) Moore of Gilbert; two stepdaughters, Ruby Cummings of Dillon, S.C., and Rebecca Strickland of Inez, Ky.; 32 grandchildren; 59 great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at noon Wednesday, March 13, at Mt. Hope Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev. Johnny Taylor and Rev. Darrell Newsome officiating. Burial will follow at the Marcum Cemetery.
Visitation will begin after 6 p.m. Tuesday at the church.
Her grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
James Funeral Home of Aracoma is in charge of arrangements.
