VERNER, W.Va. — Segal Willis Browning, 91, of Verner, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and to join his many loved ones waiting for him in heaven Wednesday, March 27, 2013, from Select Specialty Hospital in Charleston.
Born July 20, 1921, at Verner, he was a son of the late Troy and Chole Browning. Also preceding him in death was his loving wife, Betty Ruth Johnson Browning; one daughter, Mary Katherine Browning; seven brothers, Hestle, Clayton, Hersey, Hurley, Marvin, Tracy and Troy Jr. Browning, and two infant sisters.
Segal was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great and great-great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a retired coal miner, owner and operator of the gas station at Verner, a US Army Veteran and a member of the Verner Community Church. He loved working with wood and made many small wooden violins that he joyously gave to others. He loved spending time with his wonderful family, his church family and his friends. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those remaining to love and cherish the memory of Segal and to mourn his passing include his daughter, Peggy Ruth (George) Ryder of Verner; son, Jerry Dale (Donna Ramsey) Browning of Hickory, N.C.; six grandchildren: Steven C. Ryder of Verner, Betty Lyn Ryder Drew (companion Kevin Brown) of Charleston, Terry L. (Jeannine) Ryder of Ocean Springs, Miss., Amy Holsclaw of Hudson, N.C., and Candice (Gary) Dickinson and Jerry Dale Browning II, both of Hickory, N.C.; great-grandchildren: Whitney and Blake Dickinson, Christy, Paige and Terra Ryder, Emily Costner, Gabe and Logan Browning and Klye Holslaw; step-great-grandchildren: Chrissy Holsclaw and Michael Starnes; step-great-great-grandchildren: Gabe and Grayson Chamber; many nieces and nephews and a host of other dear family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, March 30, at Verner Community Church with Rev. Peggy Ryder officiating. Burial will follow in the Browning Cemetery at Verner.
Friends may gather with the family at the church Friday after 6 p.m. where a special service will begin at 7 p.m. with Rev. Walter Grimmett officiating.
Segal will be carried to his final resting place by Jerry Browning, Jerry Dale Browning II, Terry Ryder, Michael Browning, Dale Browning and Bob Griffith.
Honorary pallbearers are George R. Ryder, Jimmy Browning, Ernie Browning, Rodney Kegley, Danny Kegley, Jay Bryant and Roger Dingess.
