The driver of a motorcycle in the Crites area of Logan County tried to flee a West Virginia State Police officer on routine patrol who tried to stop him.
Richard Douglas Smoot, 41, of Accoville, was caught after he drove into a ditch and wrecked. The criminal complaint says the officer spoke with Smoot and he appeared to be under the influence.
When asked if he were under the influence, Smoot told the officer he had been smoking marijuana. The officer searched Smoot and found a green, leafy substance believed to be marijuana in his jacket pocket.
The officer transported the accused to Logan Regional Medical Center for a blood sample he consented to. The results are pending WVSP lab section results.
Further investigation revealed Smoot’s drivers license was revoked for a previous DUI. There were two other convictions for driving revoked and three prior convictions for DUI.
Smoot was arrested and charged with DUI 4th, no insurance, driving revoked 3rd offense and obstructing.
