HARTS, W.Va. — Hursel Adkins, 78, of Harts, departed this life Monday, April 29, 2013, at his residence.
Born March 3, 1935, in Ferrellsburg, he was a son of the late Elza Adkins and Belva Adkins Simpkins. Also preceding him in death was one sister, Doris Adkins Butler, and one brother, Lawson Adkins.
Hursel enjoyed hunting, gardening, travel, 4-wheelers, fishing and spending time with his friends and family. He was a UAW member, and retired from General Motors Foundry in Defiance, Ohio. Hursel was a creative story teller.
Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Doris Lambert Adkins; one daughter, Londa Adkins of Frankfort, Ky.; one son, H. Lee Adkins of Ft. Myers, Fla.; two grandchildren, Michelle and Cassie Adkins, both of Florida; one sister, Opal Brumfield; his lifelong friend, Doran Lambert, and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, May 4, at Freeman Funeral Home with Frankie Frye officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
Memorial contributions may be made to Lewy Body Dementia Association Inc., 912 Killian Hill Road S.W., Lilburn, GA 30047.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Browning, Derrick Vannatter, Matt Aldridge, Mark Butler, Neil Lambert, John Nelson, Tony Wertenberger and Ronnie Lambert Jr.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joe Lambert, Charlie Workman, Billy Aldridge, Doran Lambert and Bob Brumfield.
Freeman Funeral Home of Chapmanville is in charge of arrangements.
