SPRINGFIELD, W.Va. — Johnny Martin Thomas, 47, of Springfield, departed this life February 27, 2013, at the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center from complications related to the double lung transplant he received March 2009, due to Coal Miner’s Silicosis.
He worked as a coal miner for 18 years in Logan, Boone, Wyoming and Mingo counties.
He was born January 19, 1966, to Frank Lester and the late Zola Thomas Hatfield. His adoptive parents were the late Eli and Bessie Thomas of Gilbert.
Johnny was a loving husband to Lori Morgan Thomas for 26 years and a caring father to Jessica Thomas (Robert) Maynard and Johnathan, Brianna, Johnanna and Edward Thomas. He was a wonderful grandfather to Robert Maynard II. He was a brother to Irvin Thomas, Bessie Osborne, Elijah Hatfield, Robert Hatfield, Virginia Riffle, and the late Edward, Christoper, and Michael Hatfield, and an uncle to many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held to celebrate his life on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 16, at 2 p.m. at Chief Logan State Park, shelter 3 (handicap shelter). A covered dish dinner will be held after the service.
