MAN — Those arriving to the October meeting of START (Seniors Taking Active Roles Today) found themselves greeted by the cackle of a witch, the laugh of Dracula and the moan of the grim reaper, all part of the Halloween atmosphere. Suspended from the ceiling were large spider webs with lots of spiders. The tables were covered with black with pumpkins wearing witch’s hats. Each attendee had a Treat Bag filled with candy corn and candy.
Those celebrating birthdays in October were recognized: Helen Nelson, Merlin Spears, Patty Stowers, and Paul Thibault.
Following a luncheon filled with delicious food and scrupulous desserts, Aleli Lamyathong presented an informative session on Physical Therapy, in recognition of National Physical Therapy Month. She explained that a physical therapist works under a doctor’s instruction on helping a patient achieve as close as possible to normality. She stressed the importance of the patient continuing with the prescribe therapy at home. Following her presentation she presented each person in attendance with a hot/cold cup filled with goodies.
Dr. Pat Joe White gave to each present a brochure that explained how the money from the Levy election to be held on October 26 would be spent. One of his main points was that the levy paid for all of students’ books. If parents had to pay for their student’s books, the approximant cost was $1,200 for high school and $500 for elementary.
Paul Thibault offered cuttings for planting of types of vining plants.
Plans were made for the November Thanksgiving Luncheon. A traditional meal of Turkey/ Dressing and all the fixin’s will be held November 21 at noon at Bruce McDonald Memorial United Methodist Church.
