CHRISTIAN — A man was shot early Saturday morning during residential breaking and entering at Christian.
According to a family member, a security system installed on the home of Bill and Mary Hall sounded an alarm around 5 a.m. and the couple was notified by telephone of the breach of security at their home. The couple, who were not at home at the time, reportedly called their nephew, Terry Robbins, to go check out their home.
Robbins, who lives at Bruno, arrived at the residence to find the door to the Hall home had been kicked in. Robbins says he entered the residence with the assumption that whoever had broken into the home had left. Once inside, Robbins, who was armed, was confronted by two intruders.
Robbins, who alleges that he recognized the intruders, said he was afraid that the two were going to harm him. He reportedly told one of the intruders, who he identified as Jimmy Walker, to “get down, I don’t want to hurt you.”
When the intruder identified as Walker did not comply with the request, Robbins said he took one shot, which hit Walker in the chest.
“I didn’t want to hurt anybody, but I was protecting myself,” Robbins said.
After the shooting, Robbins took the intruders to a neighboring house where he called authorities.
Robbins said Walker ran to his mother’s home down from the Hall’s residence and was taken from there by ambulance to the hospital.
Robbins said the other intruder, who he identified as Justin Blair, was apprehended by the West Virginia State Police and placed in a cruiser.
While in the cruiser, Blair allegedly kicks out a window in the cruiser and flees. A man hunt was soon underway before Blair was recaptured.
Walker has reportedly been transferred to Cabell Huntington Hospital. His condition is not known.
Blair is currently lodged in Southwestern Regional Jail and has been charged with possession of a controlled substance, destruction of property, obstructing an officer, escape from custody, conspiracy and nighttime burglary.
Investigating officers were unavailable for comment.
