The Mingo County Commission has been working on getting kiosks to identify and describe Hatfield McCoy sites and unveiled the final product at their regular meeting Wednesday morning.
Commissioner Greg “Hootie” Smith talked about the new signs, “Everybody knows we are rich with heritage in Mingo County. We are blessed that for the Hatfield McCoy feud, a lot of the sites were in Mingo County. Since the mini-series Kevin Costner did, there has been a lot of tourism in Mingo County and our area as a result of people seeking out more information about the feud. The commission along with our project manager and grant coordinator Leigh Ann Ray and the help of Bill Richardson, went to identify certain sites we could work with in the county. We have constructed these beautiful kiosks that we will be able to go out and put on location to be able to identify the spot and what piece of history took place on that spot. Visitors will have a beautiful kiosk to let them know they have found the location and tell them a little bit of history.”
There are four or five of the kiosks to be installed.
