The Logan High School baseball team took to the diamond for the first time this sesaon and lost 4-3 to Lawrence County (Ky.) on Saturday afternoon at the Lawrence County High School baseball field in Louisa, Ky.
Logan (0-1) fell behind to the Bulldogs 4-0 after three innings and made a late comeback. The Wildcats plated two in the top of the sixth inning and one more in the seventh but fell short.
Chase Burnette led Logan’s bats as he was 3-for-4 with two RBI.
Trace Butcher and Kyle Harvey each had a double for Logan.
Chase Preston was 1-for-1 at the plate before leaving the game in the first inning due to injury.
Josh Rein, Z. Minnick and Troy Burgess had one hit each.
Logan was outhit 11-9 by the Bulldogs.
Sophomore left-hander Jared Shawver was Logan’s starting pitcher. He went three innings and allowed four earned runs with four strikeouts and one walk.
Burnette, another sophomore, pitched 2.1 innings and gave up no runs and three hits with one strikeout and two walks. Tim Saunders then fired the last 1/3 of an inning.
“Overall, I thought that our pitching was very good,” Logan coach Roger Gertz said.
Logan is scheduled to play at Ripley on Wednesday, weather permitting.
Lawrence County, a new team added to Logan’s schedule, improved to 7-1 on the season with the win. The Bulldogs come to Logan for a return game later in the season.
CHAPMANVILLE —It was a successful opener for the Chapmanville Regional High School softball team which won 12-0 over Tolsia last Friday night at home.
Lady Tigers’ freshman pitcher Faith Bell, making her first varsity start, tossed a no-hitter in the three-inning game.
Caitlin Elkins and Bell each had two hits for Chapmanville (1-0).
Lauryn Easterling and Cydnee Lambert had one hit apiece.
Chapmanville also won the JV game 23-2.
The Lady Tigers were scheduled to play at Sissonville on Monday night.
Chapmanville was set to play at Logan on Tuesday but the game is in doubt due to cold temperatures in the 30s and possible snow.
Lady Billies 2-1
The Man High School softball team is off to a 2-1 start to the season.
Man went to Williamstown last weekend and won 12-3 over the host team last Friday. The Lady Billies then lost to Williamstown, 10-4, last Saturday. Man also traveled to Paden City and won 9-0 on Saturday.
Man is set to play at Sherman on Tuesday, weather permitting.
No further details were available on the games.
