CHAPMANVILLE — Chapmanville Regional High School football player Tyler Brewster has also been nominated for the prestigious Wendy’s High School Heisman Award.
Last week, it was announced Logan High School athletes Josh Rein and Lauren Chambers had been nominated.
Brewster is the third Logan County athlete to receive the honor.
He was chosen for his excellence in academics, athletic and community leadership and will move on to the next round of judging to compete for the coveted national award.
“On behalf of Chapmanville Regional High School, we are excited to celebrate and honor the outstanding athletic and scholastic achievements of Tyler Brewster with this prestigious award,” CRHS principal Kathy Moore said.
The Wendy’s High School Heisman Award celebrates the achievements of the nation’s top high school seniors both in and out of the classroom. Just as the collegiate Heisman is known for being the highest award in college football, the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award is recognized as the most esteemed award at the high school level, as it encourages future leadership by acknowledging well-rounded students.
“The nationally recognized Wendy’s High School Heisman Award helps these high-achieving students to stand out in the increasingly selective college admissions process,” said Archie Griffin, the only two-time winner of the Heisman Memorial Trophy and Wendy’s High School Heisman program spokesperson. “These outstanding seniors across the country can use this award as a stepping stone towards continuing success and high achievements.”
One male and one female from each high school are selected as School Winners from the nearly 48,000 applicants nationwide.
From there, State Finalists will be selected, then two State Winners from each state. This group is narrowed down to 12 National Finalists, who will receive an all-expense paid trip to New York City, where they will attend the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award Ceremony, announcing the two National Winners.
