OMAR — In celebration of incorporating Stephen Covey’s “Leader in Me” program, Omar Elementary recently hosted a Leadership Day for students, staff, and area representatives.
Students led an assembly featuring musical performances and a discussion on leadership with special guests.
Student speakers for the assembly included fourth-grade students Kyle Topeka, Chole Ward, Peyton Thompson, and Jordon Watkins.
Area representatives participating in the discussion included: Tim Reed, PA (Logan Pediatrics); Alysa Porter (EMT); Dana Bennett (EMT); Dan Vance (Omar Firefighter); Phyllis Doty, Superintendent (Logan County Schools); Phyllis Adkins (Logan County BOE); Morgan White (Country Singer); Trooper Randy Frye (WV State Trooper Association); Jennifer Frye (Flight Nurse): Erin Miller (WVOW Radio); and Logan County Sheriff Sonya Porter.
Covey’s “Leader in Me” program encourages students to become leaders in their schools and communities through positive behavior that can make a difference.
Principal John Mullins believes the program is making a difference in Omar Elementary.
“As student leaders, Omar Elementary School students are developing into active, engaged partners in their own education. Their self-confidence, responsibility, and initiative are continually growing,” Mullins said.
