The Logan County Board of Education has announced an realignment for the boundaries of Logan and Omar Elementary Schools for 2014-2015.

The realignment was done at the recommendation of the West Virginia Department of Education. The realignment is due to geographic shifts in population and will affect approximately 22 students.

Several students from Logan Elementary will be reassigned to Justice or Verdunville Elementary. The change will send students from the Coal Branch and City View area to Verdunville Elementary. Students from Peach Creek will now attend Justice Elementary.

Several students from Omar Elementary will now attend Holden and Verdunville. This reassignment will alleviate long bus rides for the students. Students living in the Cora area will now attend Holden Elementary. Additional students living in Deskins Addition will now attend Verdunville Elementary.

Superintendent of Logan County Schools Phyllis Doty says she will be calling each parent personally if their child is in the updated attendance zone.

“I understand that this realignment may cause concern, but I will be contacting the parents of each reassigned student to let them know about the new attendance districts,” Doty said. “This decision was made in the best of interest of the students to guarantee they receive a quality education and that our schools are being utilized to their fullest potential.”
