HUNTINGTON – Tim Cunningham might have coached his last game at Logan High School.
Cunningham’s Logan Lady Cats finished off another disappointing season with Monday’s 75-40 blowout loss to Lincoln County in the first round of the Class AAA sectional tournament at Huntington High School.
Logan finished the season of turmoil with a 4-17 record. The Lady Cats dropped their last 11 games after a 4-6 start.
Cunningham had a goal of reaching .500 this season but the Lady Cats didn’t come anywhere close to that.
Logan has had four straight losing seasons under Cunningham, who has coached the Lady Cats for 20 years. Last year, Logan went 4-18 under Cunningham. Before that, the Lady Cats were 6-17 and 8-15.
Logan’s girls had some success under Cunningham in 2005 and 2006 with back-to-back 20-win seasons but were upset both years in the Class AA sectional tournament by Tolsia.
Cunningham led Logan to the state tournament only once – in 2000 – at the Triple-A level.
“I’m going to meet with my coaches and meet with Mr. (Robert) Lucas (LHS principal) in March at the end of the state tournament,” Cunningham said, when asked if he was going to resign. “I’m going to take some time away from basketball. I’ve got some sickness in my family and I’m going to talk it over with them.”
Hannah Tothe led Logan with 14 points in last night’s sectionals.
Jessica Bias had nine, Jenna Kimler five and Emily Vinson four. Erica Kelley had three and Jasmine Workman and Kelsey Kirk had two each.
Schelsea Caldwell led Lincoln County with 18 points. Alex Lawson had 12 and Devin Pritchard and Patty Vance had 11 each.
The Lady Panthers led 22-11 after one quarter, 42-16 at the half and 61-24 after three.
