IRONTON, Ohio — Eugene Brown of Ironton, Ohio, formerly of Man, W.Va., and Carl Ray Taylor of South Webster, Ohio, were granted the first marriage license in Southern Ohio after the Supreme Court’s ruling allowing for same sex couples to be married across the country. Judge David Payne and the staff of the Lawrence County Courthouse issued Brown and Taylor’s marriage license within hours of the Supreme Court ruling Fri., June 26.
Brown is the son of the late Ulysses and Nancy Brown of Hunt, W.Va. He is a graduate of Man High School, Southern West Virginia Community College, and The Cincinnati College of Mortuary Science and has attended the Ohio University Southern Campus. Brown is also owner of Brown Funeral Chapel in Ironton.
Taylor is son of Timothy and Patty Taylor of South Webster. He is a graduate of South Webster High School and a customer associate for the Dollar Tree.
The couple — the first in southern Ohio or Eastern Kentucky to receive their official marriage license — are planning an August wedding.
