With the aim of raising funds to fuel their various civic and educational projects, the Logan Rotary Club has announced they will host their first annual bowling tournament.
The event will take place at 1 p.m. Aug. 15, 2015 at Plaza Lanes Bowling Alley on Water Street in Logan, and will consist of teams of five people averaging their scores over two games. The entry fee for a team of five is $125, and teams must be registered for the event by July 27.
Lola Lackey, president of the Logan Rotary explained the choice of a bowling tournament by saying, “You don’t hear of a bowling tournament very often. I know that people form bowling leagues around here…, and it’s something affordable. The Rotary Club does a lot of community activities. We sponsor little league and buddy league teams and we put on a Christmas Party in December for kids from all over the county.”Lackey also explained how the Logan Rotary Club sponsors a scholarship for a Logan Senior High School student who will attend Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. The scholarship is for $1000 and is awarded each year.
Hoping to inspire a friendly rivalry on the lanes between local civic organizations, the Logan Rotary Club has also invited the Kiwanis Club of Logan and Logan Lions Club to field teams in the event.
