Logan Regional Medical Center Auxiliary held its annual scholarship awards luncheon and installation of officers to fill vacancies on June 20th, at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. President Pat Joe White presided and gave a special welcome to scholarship recipients and their family attending. The meeting was then opened with the recitation of the Auxiliary Pledge read by Margaret Shriver.
The tables were decorated by Beverly Roark in a traditional July 4 decor. A lunch, catered by Granny Jack’s, enjoyed by everyone following an invocation given by Auxilian Cecil Willis.
Members of the scholarship committee are Pauline Fortune, Chairperson, and Alice Cheek and Pat Joe White. They reported on the excellent recommendations received by their committee on each of the recipients. The auxiliary is proud of its scholarship program which enables needy students who are interested in receiving a degree in the medical field either at Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College or the Ralph R. Willis Vocational and Technical School. In addition to rendering services to the hospital and its patients and visitors, the scholarship program is an important project of the auxiliary.
Special guest at the luncheon was Sheilah Elkins, Nursing Coordinator from Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College. White also recognized longtime member Gloria Martin who is now retired from the auxiliary.
Students receiving scholarships from Southern were Kayla Hager and Keshia Wooten for the RN Program and Jessica Mazzola for the Radiology Tech program. Students receiving scholarships from Ralph R Willis for the LPN Program were Samantha Booth, Trevor Harden, Kerra Rose and Jennifer Wingler.
Parliamentarian Cheek was installing officer for the installation of officers to fill vacancies in the offices of first and second vice presidents and secretary. Cheek installed Nancy Craft for the office of first vice president, Barbara Meade for the office of second vice president and Margaret Shriver for the office of secretary. Each officer was presented a rose bud arrangement following their installation.
A brief meeting was conducted by White about the auxiliary renting a table at the up coming Arts and Crafts Fair which will be held on August 7-8 at the Logan Field House. Members were asked to sign up for craft work shop and hours available to volunteer at the fair. Auxilians were also asked to sign new confidentiality forms which are required by the hospital.
