SOUTH MAN — The Pre-K students of Mrs. Katharine Ellis and Mrs. Amy Toler along with the Head Start students of Mrs. Daryla Jackson and Mrs. Joyce Laws celebrated Thanksgiving last week by making Native American headbands along with Pilgrim hats and vests.

The students also enjoyed listening to several Thanksgiving stories and participated in various learning activities related to the first Thanksgiving.

The students were asked, ‘Where does your mommy buy her turkey?’, ‘How much does it cost?’, and ‘How does your mommy fix a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner?’. The following are their replies.

  • Mrs. Ellis/Mrs. Amy’s Class

Matthew — Mommy buys a turkey at Pic Pac and it costs $60. She cooks it inside the stove with one of those timers. She cooks it for 68 hours. Then we take the timer out and we eat it. We watch the Thanksgiving Parade before we eat.

Carly — Mommy buys our turkey at Wal-Mart. She pays $5 for it. She puts pepperoni on it and bread and sausage on it. She cooks it in the oven for 5 minutes. Then we eat it. She also fixes Mac and Cheese for us to eat.

Carson — Dad goes to the farm and kills a turkey. Then he cooks it on the grill. He cuts it and we eat it. Gavin and his brothers comes over to eat with us.

Gavin — Daddy goes in the mountains to get our turkey. He brings it home to mommy. Mommy cooks it in Mawmaw Cline’s stove. She cooks it for 10 minutes. She bakes a cake too. We eat at Mawmaw Cline’s house. Carson comes and eats too.

Braxton — Mawmaw buys a turkey at Wal-Mart. It costs $50. She cooks it in the stove for a very long time….about five hours. She fixes food with it. But I don’t like turkey. I like to eat pizza.

Mia — We go to Mawmaw Tanya’s house for Thanksgiving. Mommy buys a turkey at Wal-Mart for $2. Then takes it to mawmaw’s house. They cook the turkey in the oven for probably about 10 minutes. Then we eat it with chocolate beans. I like blueberry pie. My cousins comes and eats with us too.

Neala — Mommy goes to Wal-Mart to buy our turkey. It costs $5. She cooks it at her house in the oven for six hours. I don’t like turkey. I like to eat pizza.

Derek — I go to Mawmaw’s house to eat. Mommy cooks the turkey all day. She buys it at the Dollar Store. It costs $5.

Bryssa — Mommy buys a turkey at Wal-Mart. It costs $30. She cooks it in the oven for a long, long time. She takes it out and everybody eats it. She fixes carrots with it. Daddy fixes a pumpkin pie. Mommy fixes a ham too. I like turkey and ham.

Chloe — Mommy gets her turkey at Wal-Mart. She paid $5 for it. She puts it in a pan with baking soda and salt. That’s it. She puts it in the oven for two hours. Then she puts it on a plate with mashed potatoes. It is good. I like turkey. Mommy bakes a cake-apple pie.

Jaxon — We go to mawmaw’s house for Thanksgiving. Mommy buys a turkey at Wal-Mart. It costs $10 Mommy cooks it on the stove for five minutes. She puts salt on the turkey. We take the turkey to mawmaw’s house to eat. Mawmaw makes a pumpkin pie. I like turkey.

Isabella — Mommy buys a turkey at the grocery store. It costs $15. Mommy cooks the turkey in the kitchen. Don’t be silly Mrs. Ellis….mommy cooks in the kitchen. She cooks the turkey in the oven for eight hours and we eat.

Aidan — Mommy buys a turkey at the Dollar Store. It costs $15. She cooks it in the oven for like 15 hours. She puts peanut butter on the turkey and salt. I don’t like turkey. Mommy and Daddy and Bear (our dog) eats the turkey.

Mrs. Ellis: How does your mommy cook a turkey for Thanksgiving dinner? Connor: oven. Mrs. Ellis: How long does it take to cook the turkey? Connor: two hours

Alliyah — Mommy buys a turkey from the Dollar Store. It costs $6. Mommy puts strawberries and bacon on the turkey. She puts not real leaves but food leaves on the turkey. She puts it in the oven for 20 hours. Mommy cuts the turkey. Mommy makes chocolate cake. Then we eat the turkey. It is good.

  • Mrs. Daryla/Mrs. Laws’ Class

Bradley — Someone gives it to my mom. Mom cooks it on the stove for two minutes. We have blueberries, grapes, chicken and moon cake with it.

Taya — Mom buys it from Wal-Mart. She cooks it in the oven for a very long time.

Allie — Mommy buys it at the grocery store. It costs 17 dollars. Mommy cooks it in the microwave all day. She puts bacon on it. We eat it with bread.

Kaleb — Mommy buys it at the Dollar store. It costs 20 dollars. Mommy cooks it in the oven for two hours. We eat it with hot sauce and pie.

McKenzie — Mommy buys it at Pic Pac. She pays five dollars for it. Mommy cooks it in a pan for longer and longer times. We eat it with deer meat and hot sauce.

Madalyn—Santa Clause buys our turkey at the turkey store. He pays two dollars for it. Ellery cooks it on the stove for four minutes. He puts onions on it.

Brentin — Daddy buys it at the grocery store. It costs 20 dollars. Mommy cooks it in a pan in the oven for three minutes. I eat it with a fork with ranch and French fries.

Ian — Mommy buys it at the supermarket. It costs five dollars. It’s big. Daddy and Mommy cook it in the oven for 10 minutes. They put sausage in it.

Lydia — Mommy buys it form the food store. It costs a lot of money. It cost three dollars. Mommy cooks it with a big spoon. It’s done in five minutes. We put corn on it.

Baylee — Mommy buys it at the turkey store for 20 dollars. Mommy cooks it a pan on the stove for three minutes. We eat it with our hands. We eat it with potatoes and a drink.

Austin — Mommy cooks the turkey for 50 hours in the microwave. Then she puts stuffing in it and we get to eat it.
