ARLINGTON, Texas — An Arlington, Texas, man has reached out to The Logan Banner in hopes of locating information on his birth parents.
Frank Christlieb’s birth parents, Bob and Betty Workman, who married in 1939, lived in Logan/West Logan from about 1948 to 1951, with his two older brothers Crys and Robin Workman.
Mr. Workman worked at the old Bordens facility in West Logan as a refrigeration mechanic.
The couple also performed with one of the numerous dance bands in the Logan area during that period with musicians that included Jerry Winters, Francis Steele, Eddie Thornbury and Howell Bainbridge. Winters reportedly was a DJ at either WLOG or WVOW radio station.
“There used to be a restaurant on Huntington Road/Route 10 called the Guyan Barbecue,” Christlieb said in his email. “During the time Bob and Betty were living there and performing with the Winters band, they performed at that restaurant. We have recordings of a March of Dimes benefit the band did there in about 1951, with Betty singing vocals and Bob playing string bass. I talked a few years ago with Barbara Morrison McNabb, whose father was Dallas Morrison; he owned the restaurant and sold it in the 1940s when Barb was young. The new owners put in a dance floor and a club called the Commodore Room, and that’s where Betty, Bob and the band performed.”
Christlieb would welcome any memories of the band, the restaurant or club. He is also looking for identification of the three ladies pictured.
“I realize it’s a long, long shot that any of the ladies are still alive, but I’d sure love to find out and try to contact them to see if they have any memories of Bob they can share with me,” he said in an email.
If anyone can identify the females in the photo, or have memories to share of the band, restaurant or club, email Christlieb at [email protected] or call him at 817-995-1914.
