LOGAN, W.Va. — Cathy Adkins, director of attendance/homeless liaison for Logan County Schools, was recently awarded a $1,000 Walmart Grant for the Logan, W.Va., Walmart Facility No. 2610 for the “Every Student, Every Day!” Campaign. This grant will help respond to the needs of the local community.
The Walmart Community Grant Program is a highly competitive program, receiving more than 150,000 applications each year. Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are committed to providing opportunities for organizations to improve the communities they serve.
The “Every Student, Every Day!” Campaign promotes community awareness for the need for good school attendance. Business leaders and community organizations get on board by displaying the “Every Student, Every Day!” Campaign signs in their store fronts. Mayors from all the municipalities in Logan County — as well as the Governor of West Virginia — have signed a proclamation promoting good school attendance and support the campaign.
In the campaign, schools monitor attendance data, rewarding the classrooms with the best attendance. Monthly contests reward the schools with the highest attendance rate. There are radio and billboard contests, with ads promoting the “Every Student, Every Day!” Campaign. Parents are made aware of the importance of good attendance starting at Pre-K.
The funding will be used for a monthly contest, recognition of perfect and faithful attendance, attendance celebrations at the beginning/end of year, house parties, board meeting recognition and attendance incentives.
