Volunteers needed to sort, organize books

Staff Report

BIG UGLY, W.Va. — The Big Ugly Community Center (BUCC), Harts, received a donation of more than 10,000 books from an Illinois donor on Tuesday, June 28. The community center is seeking volunteers to help sort and organize the massive lot of books.

Shari Gullo and friends in and around the Lake Zurich area recently conducted a massive book drive. All proceeds are being donated to the heart of Appalachia in support of literacy in the mountains. Not only did Gullo and friends collect the books, they also located funds to pay for the shipment of books to Harts, W.Va.

All volunteers are welcome. People with a passion for and knowledge of various types of literature are asked to help; in return, participants will receive free books. Teachers are urged to participate, as they will receive free books for their classrooms and establish a contact by which to receive free books for their students in the future.

If you wish to participate, please contact Kandi Workman at [email protected] or by phone at 304-946-7211 or 304-855-5402.

The BUCC is a remote site of Step By Step, Inc., a West Virginia nonprofit located in Charleston. Visit http://www.stepbystepwv.org/ for more information about what Step By Step can do for your community.
