Howerton honored by church


On Sunday, August 28, First Baptist Church of McConnell recognized and honored Mr. John Howerton, Superintendent of the Sunday School, for being inducted into the Logan High School Athletic Hall of Fame. Howerton was the first Logan High School student to receive a tennis scholarship to a major college (Virginia Tech). He has remained active in the sports’ world by coming home to Logan and assisting young people in Little League and tennis. He is a compassionate and caring individual who is a great asset to his church and his Logan community. Pictured are his wife, Carol and son, Tyler, who is working on his Master’s Degree at WVU. His daughter, Michelle, is a resident pharmacist at CAMC. Howerton was inducted into the Logan High Athletic Hall of Fame on Friday, September 2, at the halftime of the Logan-Poca football game.
