The 62nd Annual McGraw Family Reunion will be held on July 19, 2014, at Southern WV Community and Technical College’s Wyoming County Campus in Saulsville, WV. The annual event, always held on the third Sunday in July, was begun in 1953 for the descendants, family and friends of John McGraw and Mahala Cozort-McGraw. John and Mahalia settled the Wyoming County community now known as McGraws in 1852 and had eleven children whose families have spread throughout the state of West Virginia. Over the years, the family has grown by marriage to include members of the Brooks, Brown, Cozort, McGinnis, Shoemate, Sizemore and many other families.
The doors will open at 11 a.m. for reminiscing and the renewal of friendships. Attendees are encouraged to bring copies of family photographs, and plenty of stories to share. Genealogical information will be available. A potluck lunch will be served at 1 p.m. Attendees are asked to bring a dish to share.
In addition to a door prize, prizes and recognition will be given to the youngest and oldest family members in attendance as well as to the family member who has traveled the farthest to be there. There will be children’s activities and a short memorial service to honor family members who have been lost since last year’s reunion. Whether a regular attendee, someone who hasn’t attended for a while or if you have never attended, all will be welcome.
