ACCOVILLE — Lula Smoot of Accoville celebrated her 100th birthday on June 29, 2014. A large gathering of family and friends gathered Sat., June 28, to honor Smoot on her special occasion.The celebration was held at the Accoville Methodist Church with more than 200 people attending. Family and friends came from as far away as Florida, Virginia, Ohio and Illinois to celebrate with Smoot on her special occasion.Since her birth, Smoot lived through the “Great Depression,” two world wars, numerous international conflicts and, for better or for worse, survived through 17 presidencies.Her daughter, Anna Lee Smoot Koefoed of New Lenox, Ill., recalled what it was like to be the oldest of 12 children born to Smoot.
