Field named for Ooten

Chapmanville Regional High School softball coach Ronnie Ooten was honored by members of the Logan County Board of Education January 26.


LOGAN, W.Va. — Chapmanville Regional High School softball coach Ronnie Ooten was honored by members of the Logan County Board of Education January 26.

Board member Dr. Ed White, made a motion to rename the softball field at Chapmanville Regional Hight School after Ooten.

Ooten was recently named as a National Coach of the Year by the coaches association of the National Federation of State High School Association.

During her time allotted for the superintendent’s report, Patrica Lucas, also congratulated Ooten.

In other sports news on the agenda, Logan High School assistant baseball coach Gary Mullins resigned effective January 11, and head LHS baseball coach Roger Gertz resigned effective January 27.

The board will hold a work session at their central office on Holy Avenue in West Logan at 5 p.m. January 31.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Logan County Board of Education will be held at 6 p.m. February 9 at the Ralph R. Willis Career and Technical Center at Three Mile Curve.
