WILLIAMSON – The Williamson City Council approved a request by the Appalachian Brotherhood to hold the annual Rally in the Valley June 2 through June 4 at Thursday’s regular meeting.
The annual event will be held at Logan Street located on Second Avenue in downtown Williamson.
At Thursday’s meeting, Carol Williamson, Secretary of the Appalachian Brotherhood, approached the council during the portion of the meeting allotted for public comment with the request to reserve the June dates.
“Each year, for the past five years, we have had a Rally in the Valley in the city of Williamson. We would like to do that again this year on June 2, 3, and 4,” Williamson stated.
This year, Williamson stated that the Appalachian Brotherhood planned on changes in regard to vendor set- up times. “This year instead of having vendors come in early on Friday, we would like to wait until after 6 p.m. Friday evening so we do not interfere with the bank’s business since it will be on the third of the month,” Williamson said.
The actual rally will be held the evening of Saturday, June 3, 2017 at Logan Street on Second Avenue. “We will have our rally on Saturday and we will close it down Saturday night and clean everything up and be gone. Then, on Sunday, we are going to have a ride that will meet in the big parking lot of First Avenue and leave from there for our ride. That is what we would like to do this year.”
Following Williamson’s presentation, the council suggested that the Appalachian Brotherhood work with the Williamson Police Chief, Barry Blair prior to the event.
The motion to reserve the June dates for the Appalachian Brotherhood’s Rally in the Valley was approved unanimously by the Williamson City Council.
