CHIEF LOGAN STATE PARK — Take a decrepit palatial mansion on a lonely street filled with torture racks, swords and host of characters who would seem to be more comfortable at a morgue rather than a meadow and combine it with outdoor theater and you have the Aracoma Story Inc.’s production of “The Addams Family.”
“The Addams Family” recently ran on Broadway in New York City and subsequently had a successful national tour. Now the show that entertained audiences across the country has landed in Logan at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheater in Chief Logan State Park at Justice Addition.
“The Addams Family” director, Bill France explained the show by saying, “It is not the t.v. show, it is not the movie, but there are a lot of references to that kind of stuff in it. This is when the kids have grown up and become teenagers, and the parents are now dealing with things like crow’s feet and getting older and those types of issues. Wednesday Addams…is head over heals in love as a teenage girl with a young man, and he’s normal. He’s from the normal world and has normal parents. That’s where the problems come. The families are going to meet. They bring over the normal family to the Addams mansion, and that’s where all the chaos ensues. They get to experience these weirdos.”
Charles Wallace, who portrays Gomez Addams explained his role by saying, “Gomez has been such a fun role because of how happy go lucky and upbeat he is with an added splash of macabre humor. The show is one of the most hilarious productions I have ever been a part of. It’s nonstop laugh from beginning to end.”
Heather Thompson elucidated her take on the role of Grandma Addams saying “She’s funny and feisty but not your typical little old lady character. I drew from the memories I have of my own grandmothers, and my favorite tv and movie grandmas through the years. I know everyone will have such a wonderful time seeing us all in action.”
The cast and crew of “The Addams Family” will stage performances July 28, 29, 30 and 31 and August 1, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 8 at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheater.
Advance tickets are available at Pic Pac at Man, Aracoma Drug in Chapmanville, Apex Printing in Downtown Logan and the Chief Logan Convention Center. Tickets will also be available at the gate of the Liz Spurlock Amphitheater in Chief Logan State Park. You can order tickets in advance by calling (304) 752-0253.
