LOGAN, W.Va. — The roots of the local moonshine industry run deep — generations deep.
Moonshining is intertwined with the fabric of Appalachian society, and the Logan County Chamber of Commerce (LCC) will celebrate those expansive roots by hosting their Second Annual Moonshine Masquerade.
The event will take place at 7 p.m. April 21 at Special Occasions Event Center on Yuma Road in Wilkinson.
Master Distillers from Appalachian Distillery and Hatfield and McCoy Moonshine will be on hand along with samples of their products.
Hatfield and McCoy Moonshine operates a micro-distillery in Gilbert, W.Va, and the company lays claim to the recipe for white lightening used by the legendary Devil Anse Hatfield.
Appalachian Distillery is ran by two former coal miners with family roots in moonshining. The pair produce 10 varieties of moonshine at their Ripley, W.Va. facility.
The event will feature a silent auction filled with items which have previously run the gamut from autographed sports memorabilia to locally produced goods and other West Virginia products.
Attendees will also be treated to hors d’oeuvres, a photo booth and music by DJ Nick Scott.
Cocktail attire is optional.
