LOGAN, W.Va. — A Henlawson man arrested May 4 for reportedly possessing child pornography was on the substitute teacher list for Logan County schools.

The agenda for the May 11 Logan County Board of Education meeting lists Lyle R. Sanders, 50, under the “Non Renewal Substitute Contracts” section.

A district administrator told the Logan Banner they could not disclose any information about Sanders’ tenure with Logan County Schools.

It is unclear at this time how long Sanders had been employed by Logan County schools.

Sanders was arrested last Thursday after Deputy R.L. Johnson, with the Logan County Sheriff’s Department, reports the department went to his home to serve a mental hygiene warrant.

While deputies were at the home, a member of the household reportedly told the officers Sanders had child pornography on his computer. The witness reportedly was able to show officers examples of the child pornography and said there was more on other devices that the witness did not know how to access.

Sanders reportedly consented to an interview with the sheriff’s department.

After he was informed of his miranda rights, Sanders allegedly told officers there was child pornography on some of the electronic devices in his home.

All of the electronic devices in the home were reportedly seized by authorities and will sent for analysis.

The severity of the sentencing provisions in the statute are directly proportionate to the amount and type of child pornography seized by authorities.

If 600 images or more are eventually recovered from the devices, Sanders could be forced to spend five to 15 years in a state correctional facility and pay $25,000 in fines.

Sanders’ bail was set to $40,000 in Logan County Magistrate Court.
