WILLIAMSON, W.Va. – West Virginia native Ed Martin has been named publisher of the Williamson Daily News.

The announcement was made by Bud Hunt, regional director of Civitas Media’s Mountain region, the newspaper’s parent company.

Martin also will serve as assistant regional director – West Virginia, with oversight of Civitas newspapers in Logan, Pineville, Gilbert and Madison. He will be based at the Williamson Daily News office, but also will spend time at the Logan Banner office each week.

“I’m a proud West Virginian and I’m thrilled to be back in my home state,” Martin said. “I look forward to this opportunity.”

Martin is a 25-year veteran of the newspaper business and hails from Newell, W.Va., an area in the northern panhandle. He graduated from Oak Glen High School in New Cumberland, W.Va.

Martin most recently worked for the Tribune Review Newspapers as assistant general manager in the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania area.

He also was the former publisher at the Floyd County Times in Prestonsburg, Kentucky in the late 1990s.

“I truly believe in community newspapers,” Martin said. “Local newspapers are important and are here to enhance the community.”

Martin has been a member of the Pennsylvania Press Association, Newspaper Association of America and Interstate Circulation Managers Association.
