TURKEY CREEK, Ky. – No one was seriously injured in a 2-vehicle accident that occurred around 2:15 p.m. Monday afternoon on Ky. Route 292 near the Straightaway Motors intersection at Slater’s Branch.

Kentucky State Police Trooper Hoyt Smith of Post 9 in Pikeville, Ky. investigated the accident.

The wreck involved the driver of a red GMC Yukon and occupants of a gray Toyota Corolla.

The GMC Yukon rolled over and ended upside down on its roof. The driver, who was not identified at press-time, was trapped for a short time.

Members of the Turkey Creek Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene with traffic control.

Appalachian First Response had two ambulances at the accident to transport those that were injured to a local hospital.

Bystanders at the scene commented on how lucky the driver of the GMC Yukon was to escape with only a shoulder injury.

Shortly after the accident a severe thunderstorm hit the area which hampered the accident investigation and removal of the GMC vehicle by the wrecker service.

About half a mile from the scene a huge tree fell across Rt. 292 blocking traffic headed toward South Williamson, Ky. The firefighters from the TCVD had to move the tree during the heavy rainfall and winds associated with the storm.
