WILLIAMSON – A Williamson man was arrested Wednesday, Aug. 26, by Sgt. John Hall Jr., and Sgt. James E. Spence of the Williamson Police Department for brandishing a weapon, obstructing, and domestic charges.
According to a criminal complaint, Sgt. Hall and Sgt. Spence arrested Ricky Elia, 57 of Williamson, after being dispatched to a possible hostage situation at Willow Avenue.
The defendant, Elia, was allegedly holding another male subject inside with a knife at an apartment at Willow Avenue.
Upon arrival, the officers were met outside the building by another male exiting from the backside of the apartments.
The man explained to the officers that there was a male subject inside the apartment with a knife and a hatchet.
Officers proceeded to the front door and knocked. The officers heard a male subject inside the apartment cursing. This prompted officers to use force to open the door.
When the officers opened the door, Elia grabbed a knife from the coffee table. The report states that officers yelled several times for Elia to put the knife down.
Elia refused to drop the weapon. In response, the officers pulled service weapons to get the defendant to comply with police orders.
The criminal complaint indicates that Elia explained to the officers that he did hold a knife to his son’s, Ian M. Elia throat and told him he was going to slice it he moved.
The victim told officers he waited until the defendant let his guard down and used the opportunity to run outside.
