Three day event begins Thursday in Chapmanville

The Town of Chapmanville Apple Butter Festival queens will be mingling with festival goers this coming Thursday, Friday and Saturday. CHAPMANVILLE — The Town of Chapmanville Apple Butter Festival will be held Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Sept. 24-26, with lots of activities, entertainments, arts and crafts and food for festival goers to enjoy. The event will be held at the old Chapmanville High School. With more than 80 vendors, there is sure to be something to please everyone.

Festivities will begin Thursday Sept. 24 at 5 p.m. when the carnival and vendors open and at 5:30 p.m., the VFW will hold opening ceremonies. Entertainment for Thursday includes local child prodigy and music sensation Liam Farley along with the Mystery Mountain Boys and several other local gospel groups.

Friday the festival will open at 5 p.m. and scheduled to perform is the Dewey Jeffrey Band and the Daddy Rabbit Band. Following the Logan High School and Chapmanville Regional High School football game, D.J. Bill France will have everyone “dancing in the streets” at a block party.

The Festival will start Saturday at 10 a.m. and includes a baking contest, karaoke, pet show, lip sync contest and entertainment by Coal Fired and, closing out the night, Cody Wickline. Entrants for the baking contest can enter the contest from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and should be sure apples are the star of their dish.

Also scheduled Saturday is the Town of Chapmanville Apple Butter Car Show; registration will be from noon-2 p.m. Entry fee is $10. Tons of trophies are promised to be awarded.

• Thurs., Sept. 24:

Noon-4:30 p.m. — Vendor Set Up

5 p.m. — Carnival and Vendors Open

5:30 p.m. — Opening Ceremonies by the VFW

6:30 p.m. — Smoke on the Mountain performed by Southern Coalition of the Arts

730 p.m. — Liam and Phil Farley on the Main Stage

8:30 p.m. — Mystery Mountain Boys

Midnight — Festival Closes

• Fri., Sept. 25:

5 p.m. — Carnival and Vendors Open

5 p.m. — Dewey Jeffrey Band on Main Stage

6:30 p.m. — Tim Williams

7 p.m. — Daddy Rabbit Band

9 p.m.-Midnight — Block Party with DJ Bill France

Midnight — Festival Closes

• Sat., Sept. 26:

10 a.m. — Carnival and Vendors Open

10 a.m.-noon — Registration for Baking Contest (entry fee of $10; make apples the prime ingredient) and Quilts Contest (entry fee of $5)

11:30 a.m. — Pet Show registration (entry fee of $10)

Noon — Pet Show; Awards include Best Of Show, Mayor’s Choice, Coordinator’s Choice, Most Festive, and everyone will receive a custom Apple Butter ribbon.

Noon-2 p.m. — Town of Chapmanville Apple Butter Car Show. Entry fee is $10. Lots of trophies to be awarded.

1 p.m. — The Addams Family presented by Southern Coalition for the Arts

2:30 p.m. — Lip Sync contest sponsored by Pickin in the Park. Dress the part and lip sync to your favorite song.

3-6 p.m. Book Signing by Thomas Dotson inside

3:30 p.m. — Chad Hess

4 p.m. — One Horse Town

5-7 p.m. — Wrestling

6:30 p.m. — Coal Fired Band

8:30 p.m. — Cody Wickline on the Main Stage

Midnight — Festival Ends
