“Addams Family” set to start soon

Sothern Coalition for the ARTS’ production of The Addams Family will be playing at the Coalfield Jamboree Theatre October 2, 3, 9, 10, and 11.

This show promises to be another big, entertaining show, full of slap-stick comedy and eye-brow raising moments – true to the creator of the comic strip and as familiar as the block-buster movies. “We selected this show specifically for October,” Rachel Noe-Maynard, Artistic Director for the ARTS said. “I cannot think of a more perfect show to kick-off the Halloween Season. The Addams Family captures the very essence of Halloween.” The Addams Family the Musical has been making its way around the country as a successful touring show and is available for amateur theatre companies to produce. “We understand that the Aracoma Story performed this show in the park over the summer and had very good attendance – I saw all the outdoor shows this summer. But we do want everyone to know that this is not the same production. This is a completely different cast and really a completely different show. So, we do encourage everyone to come downtown to the Coalfield Jamboree Theatre to see our show and kick-off the Halloween season with the ARTS,” Jamie Dempsey Butcher, Managing Director for the ARTS said. The ARTS is a fairly new company who quickly made a name for itself for its high-quality productions after producing SHREK the Musical one year ago, in September of 2014.

The company’s mission is to help revitalize downtown Logan through history, culture, and art, and since that first successful show, now have a season ticket holder count of 72 patrons. “Our shows bring people from all over the region into Logan,” Butcher explained. “We have season ticket holders from as far as Elkview, WV; Charleston, WV; Huntington, WV; as well as some towns in Kentucky and Ohio. Once people saw SHREK the Musical they realized the type of quality shows we are producing and apparently found our shows to be worth the drive to Logan. We also saw a surge in our following after producing Smoke on the Mountain – which the sequel will play in December.” “We are so proud of what the ARTS has been able to do for the town of Logan,” Mayor Serafino Nolletti said. “I am always impressed by their shows and the events they create around those shows.” The ARTS is hosting several events related to their production of The Addams Family. First, Halloween Fest will be on opening night, October 2nd. “For Halloween Fest, we will have a live music by the Big Bad and Let the Guilty Hang starting at 9 pm near the Hot Cup, we will have a Zombie Run 5K with registration beginning at 8 pm and race begins at 9 pm, then at 11 pm the ancestor zombies of the Addams Family will lead a parade of the dead down the streets of Logan to the Coalfield Jamboree Theatre for a special promotional Midnight premiere of the Addams Family.”

Kids Fest is scheduled for 5:30 pm October 3rd. “This will be a Halloween kick-off dedicated to the younger kids. We are partnering with NECCO of Logan to host a trunk-or-treat and some other fun things, like face-painting. And all kids 12 and under will get into The Addams Family show for $5 that night. Show time is at 7 pm and the $5 price is only for tickets purchased at the door – all advance ticket purchases will be the normal $12. We also encourage the kids to come in costume for a costume contest will have during intermission.” The ARTS would like readers to know that The Addams Family is geared more toward an adult audience due to mature content and adult humor. “This production on October 3rd will be an edited version of the show in order to make it more child-friendly, however, it is still very much like the movies and is full of adult humor and innuendos – we just want parents to be aware.” Butcher said.

The Addams Family the Musical will play at the Coalfield Jamboree Theatre at Midnight on Oct. 2nd, 7 pm on Oct. 3rd, 7 pm on Oct. 9th, 7 pm on Oct. 10th, and 2 pm on Sunday, Oct. 11th. All tickets are $12 and can be purchased in advance at the ARTS’ new office located at 312 Main Street, two doors down from the Coalfield Jamboree Theatre, by calling 304-785-0547, or online at www.theARTSwv.com. Tickets will also be available at the door one hour before each performance and there are no advance ticket sales for the Halloween Fest Midnight promotional.
