Former student alleges sexual abuse

Logan — A teacher at the Ralph R. Willis Career and Vocational Center (RRW) has been arrested following a complaint of sexual abuse by a former student.

The teacher is John Cain, 49, of Mallory, W.Va.. Cain reportedly teaches carpentry at RRW, and is also preacher at the Big Springs Missionary Baptist Church in Mallory.

The 17 year old victim and former of student of Cain’s reportedly contacted police with the complaint.

Cain reportedly faces charges of enticing a minor with obscene materials and sexual abuse by a guardian.

In response to the news of Cain’s arrested, Logan County Superintendent of Schools Phyllis Doty released the following statement Saturday Oct. 17, “The Logan County Board of Education holds its employees to a high standard and takes any allegations of misconduct seriously. We are cooperating with law enforcement during this investigation and, if warranted, will be taking appropriate action regarding the employee and the situation. Mr. Cain has been placed on leave.”
