WILLIAMSON – The Mingo County Redevelopment Authority (MCRA) had some good news at its regular monthly meeting last Thursday at their offices in East Williamson.
Executive Director Leasha Johnson told the board of directors that she is close to signing a potential client for the Harless Industrial Park located on 22 Mine Road at Holden.
Johnson advised board members that a potential manufacturing client which is interested in building a facility at the Wood Products Industrial Park has begun the permitting process with DEP officials, and that the company’s research and development phase is nearly complete. She indicated that a final investment decision is expected within the next three months.
Johnson also gave reports of two small business development opportunities, one for growing hydroponic lettuce and one for a home construction technology invention. Meetings with private lending institutions have been facilitated for both of these businesses to discuss the potential for both financing and technical assistance.
Johnson said that she continues to give more focus to entrepreneurial development in Mingo County, and that she’s invited Jeffrey Lusk, executive director of the Hatfield McCoy Trails Authority, to host a one day forum in Mingo County in the coming months.
“The trails present tremendous opportunities to Mingo County’s small businesses, and I’ve invited Jeff to talk to our entrepreneurs about how best to capitalize on those opportunities”, Johnson said. More information about the upcoming forum will be made available as details are finalized.
Other updates on the agenda were given by Johnson. They included:
• An update on the housing site along the King Coal Highway
• An update on the Ben Creek road work
• A report on Twisted Gun Golf Course
• An update on the Twin Branch Motor Sports Complex
• A report on the Air Transportation Park
The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, December 3, at the MCRA office. There will be no meeting in November.
