To further their goal of carrying on the Christmas tradition where firefighters deliver toys to local children, the Verdunville and Cora Volunteer Fire Departments will hold several fundraising events throughout November.
The Responding With Santa Toy Drive is set to cover areas of Cora, Shamrock, Verdunville, Harts and Mt. Gay.
Verdunville Fire Chief Windell Hunter explained Santa Clause will join firefighters and church members around a week before Christmas to make a special set of deliveries throughout Logan County.
Hunter went on to say once the fire truck has been loaded with toys, the truck will go from Stereo Video to the top of Dingess Mountain and then on to Harts Mountain before coming back for other areas.
“They have had Operation Santa going for several years, and to have to quit doing it doesn’t sit well. We have gotten together with the Verdunville Church of God and the Maryetta United Baptist Church to help organize this,” added Hunter.
Throughout the days of Nov. 7 and 21., firefighters will be collecting donations near the Kroger at Mt. Gay
New toys and cash donations will be accepted on those days.
The Verdunville and Cora Fire Departments will also host a Dinner with Santa event at the Cora Fire Station Nov. 28.
Tickets are on sale for the dinner event. Tickets for adults will cost $7 and children will cost $4.
During the dinner, children will have a chance to visit with old St. Nick.
Anyone interested in buying a ticket for the Dinner with Santa event or donating money or new toys to the Responding With Santa Toy Drive can do so at the Verdunville and Cora Fire Departments or at their fundraising events near the Kroger at Mt. Gay Nov. 7 and 21.
