The Aracoma Story Inc. set to produce Disney Classic

The Aracoma Story Inc. (TAS) has announced their summer 2016 main stage production will be “Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.”

TAS invites audience members to step into the enchanted world of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheater.

This production is based on the Academy-Award winning animated feature. The stage version includes all of the memorable songs from the animated film plus a few new songs written especially for the Broadway musical.

Disney’s Beauty and the Beast takes place in a small provincial town in France and begins when a prince is transformed into a hideous beast by an enchantress as punishment for his cruel and selfish ways.

When Maurice, the town’s eccentric inventor, becomes lost in the woods on the way to the fair to show off his latest invention, he seeks shelter in an old castle, only to find its master to be a horrible beast that takes him captive.

The inventor’s daughter, an adventurous young woman named Belle, trades herself for her father’s freedom when she finds him in the castle. She soon discovers enchanted objects, including Mrs. Potts, Lumiere, Cogsworth. Chip, Babette and Madame, that serve the Beast, and they try to make her new life easier.

In order to become human again, the Beast must earn Belle’s love before it is too late.

The story ends with Belle’s tears falling on the beast breaking the curse and turning him into the handsome prince in her dreams.

They are married and of course, they live happily ever after. TAS is excited to bring this title to life with local talent from the surrounding area.

Diana O’briant, of the Aracoma Story Board of Directors, said “Every young person deserves to see this show.” O’briant explained she is excited to be the first community theater in southern West Virginia to bring this show to the stage. “It’s going to be a summer filled with magic for young and young at heart alike.”

The previous announced title “Grease” is still on our calendar but it was hard to pass up the opportunity to produce this family favorite. Audition information will be released in the coming weeks. The summer, you don’t have to drive to Florida to experience the magic of Disney. The Aracoma Story Inc. is bringing it home.
