WVSP investigating copper theft

Staff Report

HAMLIN – The West Virginia State Police and Frontier Communications have responded to multiple copper communications cable thefts since October 31, 2015, in Lincoln County, W.Va. The most recent theft occurred this past weekend on either late Friday night or early Saturday morning. These thefts have been in a concentrated area, all within a 3-4 mile radius in the Harts area of Lincoln County near the Logan County line. The thefts have occurred along Green Shoals Road, Limestone Branch Road and a section of Big Ugly Creek Road, situated between Broad Branch and Rockhouse Branch.

“These types of thefts are significant because it leaves our customers without telephone/internet service, preventing them from using their landline phone in the event of an emergency for Fire, EMS or Police services. Rural areas like this have limited cell phone coverage and many people rely on their landline phones. Many elderly folks don’t even have cell phones,” said Bryan Stover, Frontier Corporate Security.

Anyone with information related to these thefts is encouraged to contact the Hamlin Detachment of the West Virginia State Police at 304-824-3101, Frontier Communications Security Operations Center at 1-800-590-6605, or report on the internet at www.wvcrime.com.
