LOGAN — As part of their Team Santa event, workers and volunteers with the City of Logan delivered gifts for over 12 hours Saturday Dec 19.
With the area’s recent economic downturn, many holiday charities are reporting they are trying to do more with less donations this year.
City Clerk Amber Miller Viars explained, “”This is the most meaningful event that the City of Logan does all year. It is the event that will make you forever grateful.”
To help pay for the gifts, the City of Logan engaged in several fundraising events throughout the year.
On Sept. 12 2015, the city staged the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Tower 5k run, and funds raised from the registration fees went on to buy gifts for Team Santa.
Funds raised by the murder mystery dinner held Dec. 10 also went to help fund Team Santa.
Over the last few weeks, many of the presents that were distrubted to the children of the area had been on display at Logan City Hall.
Volunteers with Team Santa shopped, loaded, unloaded, wraped and sorted the gifts to get them ready to give out.
Members of Team Santa then went door to door throughout the City and surrounding communities spreading Christmas cheer and making sure every child received a special gift for Christmas.
This year, the group included several teens and volunteers.
The city also included our furry friends giving out treats to animals along their way.
Team Santa, which has filled the gaps left byt he outgoing Operation Santa program, will be an annual event for the City of Logan.
