The Verdunville and Core Volunteer Fire Departments (VFD) recently carried out their Responding With Santa Program delivering toys to children in parts of Logan County.
Residents may remember the Verdunville and Cora VFD conducting fundraising drives near the Kroger at Mt. Gay.
The group also hosted a Dinner with Santa event where children had a chance to spend time relaying their Christmas lists to the big man in red before a meal.
In addition to Responding with Santa, the Verdunville and Cora departments teamed up with Verdunville Church of God to start a new program called “Kicks 4 Kids”.
Together, the group was able to provide children in the area with 62 pairs of shoes.
On Sunday Dec. 20, Santa, along with firefighters from Cora and Verdunville, made his rounds delivering toys and spreading holiday cheer.
Verdunville Fire Chief Windell Hunter explained Santa and firefighters made their way from Suddenlink at Mt. Gay to the top of Harts Mountain and then along to the top of Dingess Mountain.
Around 500 toys were delivered this year, added Hunter.
Hunter noted, “These programs would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our membership as well as the help of Cora Fire Department. Also, assistance from the Verdunville Church of God and local businesses such as Shoe Show, Rite Aid, Stereo Video and Giovanni’s helped make all of this possible.”
