LOGAN — As of 2012, The National Women’s Business Council reports 36 percent of American businesses outside of the agricultural sector were owned by women — an increase of more than seven percent from the same survey in 2007.
In the spirit of the continued growth of women-owned businesses, the 2016 Logan County Women’s Expo will be held at the Chief Logan State Park Convention Center from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 9.
During an interview with The Logan Banner, business owner and Beckley native Lisa Brown explained she is organizing the event to highlight women-owned businesses in southern W.Va.
Brown owns two businesses in Raleigh County: Lisa Brown Photography and Model 101 Magazine.
Brown explained, “I have photography clients in Logan…and I am trying to expand more widely throughout southern W.Va. This is a marketing event…for small businesses like myself in southern W.Va because lots of women work from home. They sell Avon or Mary Kay — I’ll have all those vendors there. ”
Brown reported all of the businesses at the expo are owned or co-owned by women.
The vendors for the event include Brittany Gillispie with Mary Kay, Morgan Morrison with Rock City Cake Company, Kellie Lewis with Younique Products, Paparazzi Accessories with LeeAnn Young, Beauticontrol with Jenna McNeely, Damsel in Defense with Tricia Tabor Washington, Pink Zebra with Megan Kirkendoll, Itworks with Veronica Lucas, Scentsy with Heather Thompson, Perfectly Posh Pampering Products with Nikki Music, Pampered Chef with Delilah Sue Hatcher, Origami Own with Cathy Daley and Jamberry Nails with Jessica Barber.
The event will also feature a Model 101 Magazine fashion show. “The models will age in range from ages five to 20,” noted Brown.
Hannah Thornsbury, a 13-year-old member of Tunes for Tots from Princeton, W.Va., and Régan Cochran a 14 year old student at Stages Music School will also be provided entertainment for the expo.
There is still space open for vendors. Potential vendors should contact Brown through the 2016 Logan County Women’s Expo page on Facebook.
