JESSE, W.Va. — The West Virginia State Police has announced several arrests in a missing persons case in Wyoming County.
According to the release, on Friday, January 8, 2016, Sergeant A. D. Palmateer, of the Jesse Detachment, received information concerning a missing person, Mr. David Crawford, who was reported missing to the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department in late December 2015. Sergeant Palmateer obtained evidence related to a conversation between a 12 year old juvenile and her boyfriend, Robert “Tre” Burton III, 19, in which they discussed the shooting of Mr. Crawford.
Through a series of interviews, Sergeant Palmateer was able to develop evidence that implicated Mr. John Toler, 27, of Turkey Dip, W.Va., in the shooting death of Crawford. Sergeant Palmateer also developed information during his investigation which led to the discovery of a body, at approximately 10 p.m. in the Craney area of Wyoming County. The identification of the body will be determined by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.
As a result of the investigation, the following arrests were made:
Mr. Robert “Tre” Burton III, has been charged with sexual assault 2nd degree (relationship with the 12 year old juvenile), accessory after the fact to murder, and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Toler has been charged with 1st degree murder and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Ms. Vicki Toler, 18, of Turkey Dip, has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder and conspiracy to commit a felony.
Ms. Raesha Massey, 25, of Oceana, has been charged with accessory after the fact to murder and conspiracy to commit a felony.
The investigation, which is ongoing, is a joint effort by the West Virginia State Police and the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department.
