Coalfield Jamboree set to host showings March 23-26

Peculiar Productions, a new ministry group, is scheduled to bring a large-scale Easter production to the Coalfield Jamboree Theater for Easter of 2016.

According to Peculiar Productions’ facebook page, the group’s mission is to share the gospel through art and media.

Joshua Butcher, co-founder of the Ministry Group explained how the idea started saying, “My wife and I have been doing shows for many years and during our last show, ‘Smoke on the Mountain,’ we starting thinking about how amazing it would be to use theatre as a tool for spreading the gospel. So, we prayed about it and the idea of this ministry group came together.”

The Easter production is titled “By the Way of the Cross” and depicts the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ through the eyes of the thief who was crucified beside of Christ.

“We chose this particular production for several reasons; one, we like the script; two, the music is beautiful, and three, we knew that several local churches would be interested in joining with us to make this production come to life,” Jamie Dempsey Butcher, co-founder said.

“Easter plays are a rare thing these days,” Dempsey-Butcher continued. “We thought instead of churches doing a few small productions here and there, why not bring those churches together to produce a high-quality, large-scale production that would attract larger audiences and hopefully compel more lost souls to come see the show. It is sometimes easier to convince a lost loved one to go see a production in a theatre than it is to attend a service in a church.”

Several churches from across the region are coming together to create the cast and crew of the production, including well-known gospel recording artists Tim Ooten of 20 Whitman Church and Krista Brown-Trogdon of Claypool Methodist Church in Man.

Show dates for “By the Way of the Cross” are scheduled for March 23 through 26 with shows starting at 7 p.m. nightly. Tickets are $10 and will go on sale starting March 1, 2016.
